About
Tea Mäkipää believes in the idea that humankind’s biggest enemy is itself. She uses her art to investigate the problems of urbanisation, globalisation, consumerism and social behaviour, focusing on what determines the sustainability and progress of western living conditions.
With 'PETROL ENGINE MEMORIAL PARK' Mäkipää has created a memorial park to "honour" the history of the oil and petrol industries and their overwhelming ability to alter the environment. Her approach can be taken as a wish for the future relationship of humanity and technological developments.
Located in the historical Arts Centre of Christchurch, the park is arranged with a tomb, ivy covered ‘monuments’ and ‘memorial tiles’ featuring the inscription, "Destiny Of All Life Lies Within Technology".
