Island Summers - needlework, art, photography, music, dance
Date: Tuesday 12 January – Wednesday 10 February 2010 Admission: Free
Island Summers marks an historical milestone for the Pacific Arts, providing a snapshot of the last ten years of the Pacific Arts Festival in Christchurch. It is accompanied by two exhibitions that remind us Pacific arts, traditional and contemporary, are alive and kicking in Christchurch and beyond.
Tiare Maori exhibits the traditional Cook Island art of tivaevae and the relatively new but related art of cotton flower making.
What-cha Say? is an exhibition of talented young Pacific and Maori artists whose work sheds some insight on what’s meaningful for young people today.
Together these exhibitions celebrate festivals gone and yet to come and remind us that – yes it’s summer and that Otautahi is on an island in the Pacific.
