About
Body Festival cancelled due to earthquake damage
The Body Festival board and director last night made the decision to cancel this year's Body Festival, which was to have opened on 24 September, due primarily to concerns over the safety of public and artists following the earthquake in Christchurch on Saturday.
The cancellation covers the entire workshop and performance programme. Body Festival staff, board and performers are now looking ahead to a bigger and better event in 2011.
Different Light Theatre Company presents ‘The Wizard of Oz’. This mixed ability theatre company is now in its sixth year. After successful performances in New Zealand and Australia and film and conference presentations of their work in New York, Philadelphia and Toronto, the group turns its attention to the grotesque and sentimental world of the 1939 film.
The performers explore their relationships to the film and its characters in a work descibed as “...provocative, challenging and very entertaining...” and “... every scene seeks out some unexplored truth of the inner life of people perceived as disabled and different...” when scenes were tried out at the Platform Festival in May 2010.
Now come and see the further development of this much anticipated exploration of the everyday subjects of difference, celebrity and death from a Different Light perspective.
