About
A trek from the Ganges to Kashmir
Australian writer and adventurer Garry Weare first went to the Himalaya in 1970. Since then he has led trekking parties into the area, co-founded the Australian Himalayan Foundation, joined Australian Himalayan expeditions and written all editions of the Lonely Planet guide, Trekking in the Indian Himalaya.
At the age of 55, he decided to take a long walk from the sacred source of the Ganges to his houseboat in Kashmir, a five-month journey that took him through spectacular scenery and into the lives of extraordinary people.
Garry Weare talks about his remarkable journey with local writer, photographer and mountaineer, Colin Monteath.
