About

We are asking people to write, draw or paint on cloth about what life is like in Ch Ch, now or in the past year or so.  The coming together of pieces is symbolic of how the individuals in a community come together in times of need.

As it is a collaborative artwork there is no one artist who can claim artistic ownership.  Many pieces have been worked on by more than one person, it is not "by" somone. Everyone who takes part  in it shares that ownership.  A contirbutor can ask for their own piece back at any time, it is simply unpicked from the artwork and replaced by another piece.  This is symbolic of how a community works.

It has been displayed in the Brighton gallery, the New Brighton library, used as a backdrop for a poetry evening in a cafe'.  Each time it grows larger as more pieces are added.  New contributors are always welcome to add a new piece, start a new piece for someone olse to finish or work on one that someone else has started.   Any pieces that are completed here at the EASTSIDE GALLERY can be sewn into the project at the end of the exhibition.   Incomplete pieces and even drawings on paper are welcome, to be completed by another person at the Brighton Gallery at a later date.
