A Different Soap Opera
Different Light Theatre Company presents a unique snapshot of disability performance work developed over 2012.
Performed by Different Light Theatre Company, an ensemble of performers perceived to have intellectual disabilities. It is a different kind of soap opera set in the melodrama of Christchurch in the recovery after the earthquakes, entirely devised by and performed by people perceived to have intellectual disabilities.
In 2012 Different Light has performed at Ludus, an International Performance Festival in Leeds, and has presented development work on the soap opera and the place of people with disabilities in the Christchurch rebuild at the Arts Activated Conference at the Concourse in Sydney (30th-31st Oct).
In a mixture of film and live performance The Lonely and The Lovely looks at the construction of heroes and villains and the highs and lows as the recovery of the city brings out the best and the worst in the people and the government.
The Lonely and the Lovely (A Different Light), as part of the Ignition programme, is a showcase of creativity at CPIT.
