About
If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to keep a city safe, this is your chance to find out.
Head along to the Emergency Services Open Day at Central Police Station, on the corner of Hereford Street and Cambridge Terrace between 12pm-6pm on 27 February and get an insight into life on the other side of the law.
Open day activities will include:
- Visiting the police cells
- Having your fingerprints taken
- Trying on police uniforms
- Having a go at the official physical competency test
- Testing your speed against the laser gun
New Zealand Fire Services will also attend the open day, providing fire demonstrations and taking part in a friendly tug of war against the police service.
Events will then continue at the free Celebrating a Safer Christchurch event over at City Mall from 5pm-9pm.
Thirty eight organisations around Christchurch involved in road safety, crime and injury prevention will be exhibiting their services.
The public will have the chance to talk to each of the organisations and find out more about what they do. There will also be demonstrations and competitions to entertain the whole family, as well as food and beverage stalls and live music along Oxford Terrace.
Families will be encouraged to pick up one of the event passports from the Celebrating a Safer Christchurch stand and take it with them to get stamped at identified exhibitors. All returned passports will then go in to a draw to win prizes including Ellerslie Flower show tickets, Gondola and Tram packages and a signed Crusaders training jersey.
Bring the whole family along – there’ll be something for everyone!
