Following Akaroa’s success in taking out first prize and winning gold at this year’s Ellerslie Flower Show, the small community is now opening up their homes and gardens for a fund-raising tour over the weekend. There’s a long tradition of beautiful gardens in Akaroa but this tour takes us not only to the gardens of the village and surrounding bays, but also into some of the houses which are tucked away down winding streets or standing out on headlands with astonishing views over the water. Tickets for the ‘Inside Out’ Garden Tour will be available from 1 October onwards and are $25 for entry into all the properties over the weekend. These can be bought at Ballantynes in Christchurch, the Little River Gallery or the Akaroa Museum. Ticket holders will get a chance to view a fantastic collection of homes and gardens spread around Akaroa Harbour, Takamatua and the Bays.
