About

Drop a line on Children's Fishing Day 2012 at New Brighton Pier

Budding anglers are invited to drop a line and hook a fish off the New Brighton Pier in the just-for-kids fishing day on Saturday 3rd November.

Children only have to bring their rods or drop lines, and an adult to look after them if they are under 14. The competition is free and open to age 16.  Free bait is also available at the Pier although many prefer to bring special bait for the day.

There will also be some rods and drop lines available to use for free on the day.

Local fishing enthusiasts as well as staff from the Ministry of Fisheries and the Department of Conservation will offer fishing tips and advice on the Pier.

Participants can register at the event and go in the draw for a number of spot prizes.

Activities for younger children include storytelling, chalk art and face painting. All activities are offered on the Pier.

This event is funded by the Burwood/Pegasus Community Board and co-ordinated by Christchurch City Council's Recreation and Sports Unit.

If wet, the event will be postponed to Sunday 4th November 12.00-3.00pm and this notice will be broadcast at 9am on Newstalk ZB.

For more information about this event phone the Christchurch City Council on 941 8999.
