In New Zealand, approximately one woman dies every day from a gynaecological cancer and approximately 900 women are diagnosed each year.
The key to making progress in care and improving outcomes for women diagnosed with gynaecological cancers is research, however funding for research in New Zealand is difficult to access and many good research ideas are significantly hampered by a lack of funds.
A charitable trust was established in Canterbury in 2010. The Gynaecological Cancer Research Trust has been set up by a group of professionals with a special interest in gynaecological cancer.
