Movement Of Art And Earth
26 Sep to 01 Oct
Christchurch has undergone monumental changes in the past six years. One positive change is the way art is created, funded, presented, and interacted with by a wide range of people. The movement of the earth has resulted in a movement within the Christchurch art scene.
Art should be for everyone – regardless of a person’s background, ethnicity, wealth, or gender. Art should not discriminate. As our communities grow more diverse, so should our art and the way we view and create it. This concept is a learning curve for Christchurch, which has often been considered conservative and traditional in its approach to public art.
Movement of Art and Earth document people interacting with street art that was created since the Canterbury earthquakes. Through a series of images, viewers will see how hands-on art can be, and how it contributes to a city and community even during times of grief and rebuild.
The gallery is wheelchair and pushchair accessible, and the photographer will be onsite to interpret the images for people with visual disabilities.
