ASB Classical Sparks will once again deliver a programme of music to excite and inspire you and a few surprises as well!
Welcome in Waitangi Day with an open-air concert starring the sensational Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Mr Richard Marrett.
Local kapa haka will open the evening in a celebration of our Maori heritage followed by a rich array of stunning music combined with talented Southern Opera ensemble. The second half features Christchurch’s stars of the music theatre – Showbiz Christchurch. Showbiz, will hit the stage with high impact singing, dancing, lighting, sound and costuming will provide a smorgasbord for the senses.
This event will be postponed until Friday 6 February if it is wet.
We will wrap up the evening with The William Tell Overture which will accompany and enhance the breathtaking fireworks finale.
ASB Classical Sparks marks the eve of New Zealand’s national day – an event close to the hearts of Cantabrians and much appreciated by visitors.
As a prelude to the evening, the ASB Classical Kids will showcase talent from school children across the city from 6 pm. Stroll through Hagley Park and be inspired by these wonderful young musicians. Please bring a gold coin for their hats!
