Christchurch Symphony Orchestra presents

Celebrating the Elements - AIR

NEW VENUE - now at 2.30pm at the Salvation Army Citadel, Durham Street.

The CSO's principal wind players will enjoy the spotlight in Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante, a work written to exhibit the lyrical qualities of wind instruments.

Famous for his tone poems and great opera, Richard Strauss was adept at evoking emotional responses, and his Wind Serenade Op. 7 demonstrates this ability, while nostalgically evoking Mozart's style and epoch. In a similar vein Dag Wiren's Serenade is the Swedish composer's most famous work and was completed in 1937 on his return from musical studies in Paris.

Conductor: Sir William Southgate

Feature Artists:

Peter Dykes (oboe) Gretchen La Roche (clarinet) Selena Orwin (bassoon) David Cox (horn)

Strauss: Serenade

Dag Wiren: Serenade

Beethoven: Cavatina

Mozart: Sinfonia Concertante for winds
