About
Come and hear Schola Cantorum perform favourite songs from the past 25 years, and join them for the 'Big Sing'.
Three of the choir's past conductors and the current director Roger Buckton, will take part in the concert.
The second half of the concert, the "Big sing" will see the audience joining in for some memorable items including a Christmas carol and Roger Buckton's arrangement of Toch's spoken fugue - "26 Reasons to love Canterbury."
Schola Cantorum was founded in 1987 by Harry Abbenhuis with the object of singing mostly Medieval and Renaissance vocal music. The repertoire of the 20/25 voice choir is now quite extensive and over the years, many memorable performances have been given in Christchurch and more recently in Nelson, Hampden and Darfield. An especially successful feature of the Hampden performance was the combination with a consort of viols and viols will again be involved at the Anniversary Concert. They will join with David O'Beirne (tenor) and the choir in a performance of Gibbons lovely verse anthem - The record of John.
Cover charge includes drinks and nibbles.
