New Zealand International Jazz & Blues Festival

New Zealand International Jazz & Blues Festival

The New Zealand International Jazz & Blues Festival is pleased to present a stellar line up of local, national and international jazz and blues talent including world renowned jazz trumpet maestro James Morrison, with our own Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, in a not-to-be missed musical collaboration celebrating the life and work of Duke Ellington.

'A Tribute To Duke Ellington' will feature performances of Ellington’s classics It Don’t Mean A Thing (If it Ain’t Got that Swing), Caravan and Solitude alongside a rare performance of A Tone Parallel to Harlem (The Harlem Suite). Do not miss this fantastic opportunity to see one of the world’s best jazz trumpeters in concert with Christchurch’s very own Symphony Orchestra, performing a selection of music created by one of the greatest jazz composers of all time.

The Cavell Leitch Law 'JAZZ IN THE GEO' will feature an eclectic mix of musical styles and artists including 'Women in Jazz' headlined by the very talented and popular Jennine Bailey, the dynamic singer Tessa Quayle and our very own gems of jazz Toni Randall and Courtenay Washington. The series continues throughout the week with famed German jazz great Klaus Doldinger’s 'Passport' and Harry Harrison’s 'Nothin’ But the Blues' featuring a fantastic line up of local talent.

The Geo Dome will also play host to a series of daytime concerts. Enjoy Swing 42 on Wednesday 11 April, Jeff Bradley’s Delta Swing Trio on Thursday 12 April, La Petite Manouche on Friday 13 April, Amiria Grenell on Saturday 14 April and Malcolm McNeill - 'A Matinee of Music' on Sunday 15 April.

The CPIT campus will play host to performances by the New Music Collective, and the Christchurch Jazz Icons concert, as well as an array of master classes.
