About
This is an initiative to get women of all ages and cycling ability inspired to leave the car at home, frock up and ride their bikes; proving that cycling is a fun, feminine, chic, appealing, environmentally friendly, healthy, and NORMAL mode of everyday transport!
We will meet at Victoria Square where there will be entertainment, a “catcycle” (think catwalk on 2 wheels), lots of spot prizes, food and coffee stalls and other activities.
We hope the experience encourages more women to think about cycle commuting as the obvious transport option in our beautiful, flat urban landscape. Whilst our target audience are women, we invite men to join us for the launch, wearing stylish, everyday clothing. Our aim is to raise awareness that cycling can be done in NORMAL clothing and to debunk the perception that in order to cycle commute you need specialized clothing.
Our event is linked to 350.org,October 24th 2009 being international day of action to encourage world leaders to reduce carbon emissions world wide.
The launch of our FROCKS ON BIKES will be one of several local, national and international 350.org events to mark this day. www.350.org.nz The Frocks on Bikes launch in Victoria Square will be part of a bigger Climate Change Festival.
Why 350? Scientists say that 350ppm (parts per million) of CO2 in the atmosphere is the safe limit for the planet and humanity. Currently we are at 390 and increasing by 2ppm every year.
Using cycling for everyday transport is just one very small measure that anyone can do to help reverse the rise in CO2 levels
OUR PHILOSOPHY: HAVING FUN, BEING HEALTHY, ENCOURAGING SUSTAINABLE, NON POLLUTING METHODS OF COMMUTING, AND LOOKING GREAT!
